Hear the Whistle

No steam engine would be complete without a whistle. Here are two samples of Kay-Gee 1875's whistles: whistle 1, whistle 2.

Some people I have talked with have said whistle signals were used to communicate various things out in the field. Others disagree with this beyond the distress signal. The Case-International web site once offered these whistle signals that some farmers used in their company history section.

One Long Blast
Indicated the location of the work place
Two Short Blasts
Signal to begin work
One Short Blast
Stop
Two Long Blasts
The work day is over
Three Medium Blasts followed by Three Short Blasts
Bring more grain
One Long Blast followed by Three Short Blasts
Bring water
A Repetitious Series of Short Blasts
