Fighter Escort to Tokyo (May 7, 1945)

May 7 — We went to Iwo to escort fighters and did some sight seeing.

May 8 — We didn’t see anything much today as we didn’t go over land. Everything went fine.

— Joe Caner Swann

The 313th Bomb Wing was involved in a series of missions on May 7 and 8. The crew of the Star Duster must have been sent to Iwo Jima to provide navigational escort to the P-51s providing fighter support for these missions.
