Truk (October 30, 1944)

This was a shakedown mission involving 18 aircraft of the newly arrived 73rd Bomb Wing. The target was the submarine pens, Dublon Island, Truk Atoll. The bombers arrived at the target at 11:00 am flying between 25,500 and 27,500 feet carrying 6,000 lbs. of bombs each.

The weather over the target was 5/10 overcast with cumulus clouds. No enemy fighters and very little antiaircraft fire. Ten bombers were ineffective, with nine dropping bombs by radar two miles beyond the target.

All aircraft returned safely.
